Windows 7 reality check via “Basic Instructions”

upgradeWhile pretty much everyone agrees Windows 7 is the best Windows in the history of Windows (which it should be since it’s the latest, right?), Basic Instructions takes a look at why it feels so good to move to the new OS.

1/3 to 1/2 of of the benefit of any new OS is the cleansing powers of a fresh installation.

Monday Morning Metal Mayhem – “Dethalbum II” by Dethklok

Metalocalypse
Image via Wikipedia

Frequent visitors to the site, probably already know I’m a fan of the fictitious, animated band Dethklok from Adult Swim’s Metalocalypse. Recently the third season of the show started and their second album (covering their second season) has been released.

Dethalbum II isn’t as spectacular as the first album, but still thoroughly entertaining.

12-sided Rubik’s Cube: the most nefarious device known to mankind

This makes me want to cry in frustration just looking at it. Never mind the the Hellraiser puzzle box, this will destroy your brain and drive you to madness.

Ages 5 and up.*

*I don’t know the actual age recommendation so don’t sue me if you buy it for a 6 year old and they choke on it.

“A Klingon Christmas Carol” update/clarification/apology

So, that post about the Klingon language version of A Christmas Carol… the information I had at the time turned out to be incomplete, and my estimation skills wildly off.

Chris Kidder, the Artistic Director for Commedia Beauregard, was kind enough to drop me a note with some additional information. This is actually the third year the show has been performed and they’re moving to a larger space this year to accommodate the crowds (they’ve sold out the previous seasons).

Commedia Beauregard’s site has more information about the show if you’d like more information. I’ll admit, I thought it would be a tough sell, but I’m impressed they’ve been able to take an off-beat idea and turn it into a holiday tradition. Congratulations!

Monday Morning Metal Mayhem – “Black Betty” performed by Ministry

Cover Up (Ministry album)
Image via Wikipedia

As I’d mentioned previously, Ministry hung up their collective, proverbial hat a year or two back. They released Cover Up, a collection of covers, at about the same time. While it’s no Psalm 69, it’s worth a listen. It kinda fun without being cheesy.

Electric Six @ First Ave tonight

It’s time yet again for Electric Six’s fall show here in Minneapolis. Although the last few albums haven’t been able to live up to the awesomeness exhibited in the first album, the albums are still decent and the shows are still amazing.

If you haven’t had a chance to check them out live, I encourage you to do so. If you’ve already seen them live then you probably already have your ticket.
