Nicole Atkins – “Vitamin C”

Nicole Atkins

Cover of Nicole Atkins

Can’t remember where I heard this now, but it caused me to track down Nicole Atkins. Much to my disappointment, the song I’d heard (this song) is a cover of a Can song and I’m not nearly so taken by the songs she’s written, but this one is worth checking out. Download it from Stereogum, and/or stream it here.

It’s like The Sundays and “Wild Horses” all over again…

Jack White, less lame

Jack White

I haven’t been a huge fan of Jack White‘s projects lately, personally rating the Dead Weather a solid “meh.” He’s been busy, but it doesn’t feel like he’s been spending enough time or energy on any particular project to make it great. That said, a little Jack isn’t anything to sneeze at, I just miss the White Stripes. I am enjoying his contribution to the new Rome project though, a collaboration between Danger Mouse and Italian composer Daniele Luppi. Mr. White’s vocals show up on “Two Against One.” Check it out.

Here’s some better, vintage(r) Jack.

Oh, Meg, it’s a shame I don’t think you’ll pick up another gig drumming.

Yeah, it’s April 1st, the tubes are clogged with crap

I’m not sure why everyone seems obliged to try to get in on April Fool’s day, but it leads to a ton of crap that isn’t funny. So far, the only thing that’s caught my eye was the Living Social deal for Spalami (in Porkland). Check out the promo video below, or just hit their site for details. At this point, runner up is Think Geek’s Angry Bird Pork Rinds. But after the brilliant Tuantaun sleeping bag and iCade of years past, I’m a little disappointed in TG’s showing this year.
