Most Awsomeist DVD Packaging EVER

vb_frontNever before have I been so impressed with the cleverness of DVD packaging. I’m not sure why this vintage Atari 2600 cover art style is so great, but it is. The Venture Brothers is generally at least good, bordering on brilliant at times. Not sure who’s responsible for packaging, the folks that work on the show, or the Adult Swim crew, but hats off to all of you.

I’m having serious impulse control issues now… But you don’t have to resist, go buy it, here, I’ll help, here’s a link… click it… I know you want to.

Watch “The IT Crowd” Instantly

the_it_crowdI’m not sure what the hold up is on the DVD, but it seems like the geek cult favorite The IT Crowd has been on-again/off-again for a couple years for DVD distribution. For you lucky Netflix folks, it’s available now as a watch instantly title.

Well, what are you waiting for… go

Tonight’s Double Feature: Weirdsville & Netherbeast Incorporated

Ah, Roku box, how do I love thee? Tonight you brought Weirdsville into my home from the fine folks at Netflix. Appropriately titled, it’s a pretty loose plot that serves to string together a series of odd events, people and places.

It’s not great and fell back on the comedy equivalent of punting (use of a midget), but it’s definitely worth checking out if you’ve got the Netflix.

The mailman brought Netherbeast Incorporated earlier today (also from Netflix).  Despite an impressive cast for something I’d never heard of before some random Netflix recommendation, it was only ok. Dave Foley, Judd Nelson, Jason Mewes, and Darrell Hammond (ok, that doesn’t really count as a plus) all have substantial roles, but surprisingly none are the lead. Basically, it’s Office Space meets Interview with a Vampire. It was a great idea, but they just couldn’t quite pull it off.

Getting back to Weirdsville, at this point is Scott Speedman’s career, he’s almost made up for being “that dreamy guy from Felicity.” Almost.

Jane Austin, and Sci-Fi, and Horror, Oh My!

I don’t recall whether I’d posted anything on Pride and Prejudice and Zombies back when it was making the rounds on the blogs. If I didn’t it was only because I was disappointed by the $12.95 price tag.

In a related story, apparently there is also a Pride and Predators movie in the works. It would appear that both projects are independant of one another. I don’t know if one stole the concept from the other (in addition to borrowing a good deal of content from Jane Austin), but maybe it’s just a matter of two similar media releases of similar subject matter hitting at the same time (e.g. those two volcano movies, those two asteroids-may-destroy-the-earth movies, Mall Cop and that other mall cop movie that’s about to come out…).

Stay tuned for more ways to make Victorian romance novels suck less.

Movies: Murder Party

70077076Tonight’s feature: Murder Party started off strong. It’s a new idea and the victim with whom the movie started was competent enough. Unfortunately, the rest of the characters, with one (maybe one and a half) exception depend much too heavily on art-school in-jokes.

The end picked up again, in no small part because the victim got loose again and something actually happened. I’ve definitely seen worse, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Unless of course you’re scrapping the bottom of your Netflix queue (like I am).
