Now’s shes in purple, now’s she the turtle
Not my favorite Siouxsie tune, but it’s popped up on two different streams in the past week, so I thought I’d share.

Honey we ran from the country, when we rushed to the city. And now there’s nothing to be done.
Off of The Drums’ album “Portamento.”
Bonus, obnoxiously catchy The Drums song, “Let’s Go Surfing” from their self titled, “The Drums,” album

I took my money and bought a donut. The hole’s the size of the entire world.
From Sleater-Kinney‘s “The Woods”

The other side of the mountain was all that he could see.
“N.W.O.” from the Ministry album, “Psalm 69“

Can’t remember where I heard this now, but it caused me to track down Nicole Atkins. Much to my disappointment, the song I’d heard (this song) is a cover of a Can song and I’m not nearly so taken by the songs she’s written, but this one is worth checking out. Download it from Stereogum, and/or stream it here.
It’s like The Sundays and “Wild Horses” all over again…

I haven’t been a huge fan of Jack White‘s projects lately, personally rating the Dead Weather a solid “meh.” He’s been busy, but it doesn’t feel like he’s been spending enough time or energy on any particular project to make it great. That said, a little Jack isn’t anything to sneeze at, I just miss the White Stripes. I am enjoying his contribution to the new Rome project though, a collaboration between Danger Mouse and Italian composer Daniele Luppi. Mr. White’s vocals show up on “Two Against One.” Check it out.
Here’s some better, vintage(r) Jack.
Oh, Meg, it’s a shame I don’t think you’ll pick up another gig drumming.

I managed to get Private Eyes from Hall and Oates stuck in my head last night. In a attempt to get it out, I’m attempting to purge it with The Bird and the Bee cover from their Interpreting The Masters Volume 1: A Tribute To Daryl Hall And John Oates.

A couple examples of why I used to love Mason Jennings:

Yet another earwig that’s crawled up into my brain to nest. Aphex Twin’s version of the Tetris theme is nearly as addictive as the game itself.
Oh, and the picture? That has nothing to do with anything. Yet, for some reason one of the blogging add-ins suggested it was somehow related and for some other reason, I was amused enough to include it.

On my list of musical pet peeves, auto-tune is definitely number one. Number two is easily the ridiculously repetitive backing track that sounds like someone hit rhythm key number four on their Casio keyboard and just let it go for the duration of the song.
It’s for this reason that I put Hot Chip‘s We Have Love in my guilty pleasure pile. I know it’s annoyingly repetitive, but I still enjoy it every time it’s on the radio.
