Peter Steele of Type O Negative and Carnivore Dead

I admit I was unaware of Carnivore until reading that Peter Steele had passed away. I checked Carnivore out and I’m still a bigger Type O Negative fan than I am a Carnivore fan, but it’s fun to check out the older stuff sometimes.
Above, enjoy Christian Woman from Type O Negative’s album Bloody Kisses. Below, an older track from the Carnivore days, U.S.A for U.S.A. from Retaliation. Any song with “douchebags” in the lyrics has got to be good, right?

String metal band “Judgement Day” play the 400 Bar 4/7

That’s right, I said STRING METAL… the video below is not well produced or even necessarily their best tune, but it is the best WTF-experience I could find for the band. A violin, cello, and drum set can do THAT? Well done guys. Check them out Wednesday at the 400 Bar. Tix are $8.

More info on Judgment Day at their site, http://www.stringmetal.com.

Har Mar Superstar at the Weisman?

Har Mar Superstar at Noise Pop's Freedm Night ...
Image via Wikipedia

I’m not sure what bugs me so much about Har Mar Superstar. Is it the fact he  kinda reminds me of Ron Jeremy with more delicate eyebrows? Is it his, “I’m acting all sexy when clearly I am not sexy? schtick? Is it the fact that his popularity makes me think I’m missing something? Hard to say. I do admit that I want to hate Tall Boywith every fiber if my being, but it’s actually pretty catchy. Damn you Ron Jeremy, uh, I mean Har Mar Superstar…

Oh, and about that title, he’s playing the Weisman Museum this Saturday, but it’s sold out.

Aquabats in Minneapolis 3/13, who’s in?

Ok, so they’re here in support of what is likely their day job at this point, Yo Gabba Gabba, but it doesn’t mean the big kids can’t have fun too. After two shows for the little kiddies at the Target Center, The Aquabats are off to the Triple Rock.

Unfamiliar? Check out some of their tracks below. Or some of the other related posts here on the site.

Kirsten Dunst as Japanime princess

I like the idea of Kirsten Dunst, but rarely anything she does. I like the idea of this video, but… well… the cover is a little weak.

For those unfamiliar with Slacker Radio, it’s similar to Pandora but with a larger library including some comedy stations, oh yeah, and it has stations (pre-configured genre-based streams that are still configurable via your likes/dislikes).

If you’re a Slacker Radio fan with a WebOS device, check it out. Both of you.

More weird 80s covers from The Lost Fingers

The Lost Fingers

I haven’t figured out if I like The Lost Fingers or not, but I’ve decided to keep listening until I figure it out…

I tend to feel better about things if I can categorize them. So far, the best I’ve been able to come up with is “What if The Squirrel Nut Zippers were a cover band?”

The Current is Cookoo for Crazy Covers

Alright, so as if Burning Down the House as covered by Tom Jones AND The Cardigans wasn’t weird enough, they followed it up with The Lost Fingers covering You Give Love a Bad Name.

BTW, if you like that Lost Fingers tune, apparently they have a bunch of other 80′s covers to explore.

Wish I’d known about this earlier, as in, before it sold out, But apparently Mates of State is (are?) playing this Saturday at the Weisman museum on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus. To console myself, I’ve posted Ha Ha off of their Team Boo album here for your listening pleasure, I hope you enjoy it. And, if you happen to catch the show, let me know how it worked out at the Weisman.

Monday Morning Metal Mayhem – “Dethalbum II” by Dethklok

Metalocalypse
Image via Wikipedia

Frequent visitors to the site, probably already know I’m a fan of the fictitious, animated band Dethklok from Adult Swim‘s Metalocalypse. Recently the third season of the show started and their second album (covering their second season) has been released.

Dethalbum II isn’t as spectacular as the first album, but still thoroughly entertaining.

Monday Morning Metal Mayhem – “Black Betty” performed by Ministry

Cover Up (Ministry album)
Image via Wikipedia

As I’d mentioned previously, Ministry hung up their collective, proverbial hat a year or two back. They released Cover Up, a collection of covers, at about the same time. While it’s no Psalm 69, it’s worth a listen. It kinda fun without being cheesy.
