Thursday Shuffle – Week 5

TIFF: Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist

Here we are, and it’s Thursday again. I sat in line for 90 minutes this morning to get the Cities 97 Sampler at the downtown Target this morning. With any luck I’ll never have to listen to it. If it hadn’t become an expected gift, it might be a good year to sell them given the length of the line.

Fortunately I had my trusty Zune and Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist kept my entertained. Actually not a bad movie, for being PG-13, the most conflicted of all ratings.

Here are the tracks this week:

Superblast! by Lush
Wild Boys by Duran Duran
Where Do They Make Balloons? by They Might Be Giants
You Don’t Send Me by Belle and Sebastian
Black Math by The White Stripes

And those Grooveshark didn’t have:

She Said, She Said by The Black Keys
Love Is Blue by Future Bible Heroes

Thursday Shuffle – Week 4

Ok, we’re back to Thursdays. You know the drill, 5 random songs off the MP3 player, regardless of the shame they might bring upon me. Only one couldn’t be found on Grooveshark, and to be fair, I’m not sure how I wound up with the track to begin with.

Porno for Pyros by Porno for Pyros
Bachelorette by Bjork
Wishful Beginnings by David Bowie
Better Metal Snake by Dethklok
I Keep Coming Back by The Afghan Whigs

This came up but were left out here as they were not available on Grooveshark:
Everything They Thought Was Everything by Silence the Foe

Thursday Shuffle – Week 3

Yeah, I know it’s not Thursday, but it’s Friday, and Friday is pretty cool so I’ll drop it if you do.

Brought to you this week for your listening enjoyment:

  1. Down in It by Nine Inch Nails
  2. William, It Was Really Nothing by The Smiths
  3. West End Girls by Pet Shop Boys
  4. Getting Better by The Beatles
  5. Strib Nicht Vor Mir by Mammstein

Songs not brought to you this week as they were not available from Grooveshark:

  1. D85 by B12
  2. Clearcut by Slot
  3. Exploder by Breadwinner

On an amusing related note, “Strib Nicht Vor Mir” translates to “Don’t Die Before Me,” “Strib” specifically translating to “Die.” Why is this amusing, if only in a sad way? The local paper here in Minneapolis is on the brink of failure as are many of the daily newspapers through the country. We used to be able to support two papers, The Star, and The Tribune. At some point, readership could only support one paper, so the two merged into the Star Tribune, and is nicknamed The Strib.

Thursday Shuffle – Week 2

Much Music (+ 16 random things about me)

Two weeks in a row, that’s like a pattern or something… This is the second installment of the Thursday Shuffle feature. Here’s the lineup for the week:

Sugar Water by Cibo Matto
And the Same by Fugazi
Make You Cry by Jonathan Coulton
Five Man Army by Massive Attack
Life of Leisure by Rainer Maria

I almost wound up with two silly Jonathan’s in one mix, but alas, Reno from Jonathan Richman was nowhere to be found. In the spirit of full disclosure, these are song that came up on shuffle, I wasn’t able to include because they were not available on Grooveshark:

Bunny Boom by All City Affairs
Reno by Jonathan Richman

Thursday shuffle, five random songs

As of late, I’ve been struggling for posts, as the feeble post count for October to date will attest. So, I’m trying out a new regular… uh, feature? I’d done something like this once before, but I’ll trim the count down from 10 to 5 and try to do it on a regular basis (Thursdays). I hope you enjoy the peek into my Zune (yes, I still have a Zune…).

Apparently, the Zune is feeling like it needs to dance today. Stupid Zune…

I had to skip Washed Your Car from Cloud Cult and You’re Going Insane by Messiah as they weren’t available on Grooveshark.
