Just a reminder, Bat for Lashes is playing at The Varsity Theater ($12 in advance, $15 at the door) and The Dropkick Murphys are playing over at Harriet Island (FREE!!) tonight.

Picking up where the summer music and movies series leave off, Vita.MN is hosting a fall series including movies like Jaws and Time Bandits and bands like Low and The Honeydogs. Said music and movies will be at the Lake Harriet band shell and running Saturday nights so it may be a little more convenient for those in the burbs to make the trip.

In case you hadn’t heard, The Reverend Horton Heat is playing First Ave tonight. They always put on a great show; no doubt you’ll get a chance to see Jimbo surf on his upright bass by the end of the night. Check out the live clip below, then come out to see them tonight.

So, how do I follow up a week of goofy, monkey-centric pop? I’m not quite sure, but I’ll try to mix it up some. Today’s track is still fun (in a bitter kinda way). No Children by The Mountain Goats, is off their album Tallahassee.

If you enjoy it, think about checking them out live at The Cedar Cultural Center on November 7th. Tickets are on sale now.

**UPDATE** Looks like the show is sold out. If that totally bums you out, last time I checked, Craigslist had some tickets that are reasonably priced.

The weekend of August 7/8th is turning out the be a great weekend for free music. Pizza Luce is holding their 7th annual block party on Saturday, August 8th from noon to 10:00pm. Admission is free, and the line-up includes the 11 bands listed below.

It’s a nice opportunity to catch some music outside, while wandering around with beer. Perhaps an opportunity to wear your new “I’m outdoorsy in that I like to get drunk on patios” t-shirt.
